quick build
So aside from the whole “need to get out of Ottawa” reason for coming to london I figured if anything I could make some contacts through professors but I just never knew it would be this wicked…

Every Thursday we have a technical skills course which is actually just amazing. There are no equations or anything mathematical about it, its just an hour and a half lecture on architecture, old and new building techniques, materials, structures, and awesome architecture from different architects.
but yeah, back when i started following architecture blogs and documenting my inspirations in my photoblog I found an architect whose work i fell in love with. His name is Adam Kalkin and the picture above is one of my most favourite works, 12 container house. It follows everything i love about architecture, its modern yet home-y, new but uses old/recycled shipping containers and is nestled in the woods like a cottage or cabin. Anyways, our technical studies course is taught by two professors, Peter Silver and Will McLean and last week Pete Silver got snowed in somewhere in england (everything shuts if theres anything more than 1cm of snow on the road) but yeah so Will McLean told us that instead of a lecture he’s going to talk to us about Adam Kalkin and he basically gave a 45min lecture on the Quick Build and the ideas behind the shipping container builds and I loved it. it was amazing. so much cool information and then at the end of the lecture i went up to talk to my prof and look at the book “Quick Build” that he had with him and we started talking and it turned out that hes good friends with Adam Kalkin, they studied at the AA together and then worked together on Quick Build projects. He also worked with Will Alsop (guy who design the OCAD building in toronto) and both Peter Silver and Will McLean taught at the bart.
so wicked learning from these guys.
